Killian Wright's superb new soundtrack album The Separation is available now for streaming at true blockhouse and will be released in music stores and streaming portals on 20.03.21.
Killian Wright's new album 'The Separation' is a haunting and complex new soundscape inspired by the Oscar winning film: A Separation.
This is the second in the series in which Killian re-imagines how certain iconic films might sound if they had been given a musical score.
In this award winning film a married couple are faced with a difficult decision - to improve the life of their child by moving to another country or to stay in Iran and look after a deteriorating parent who has Alzheimer's disease.
It is a compelling and also disturbing film which leaves the viewer questioning the wisdom of family loyalties, social and criminal justice and how cultural and religious beliefs influence our sense of fairness and retribution.
“This is the first foreign national film which absolutely held me spell bound. It is a cinematic masterpiece and I was enthralled by its incredible story telling, direction and leading actors who played their parts so well. But I couldn't help but wonder, 'could a film score - open up even greater emotional responses?' So I started out writing a simple opening track so see if it felt right - but for the next six months, I just couldn't stop scoring this film.
I wanted the score to be minimal and without obvious melodies - I wanted this score to remain unobtrusive and only underpin the emotions you see played out on screen. The score challenges and sometimes feels unstructured, but this was deliberate, as I always tried to match the exact visual movements on the screen with audio and musical references". Killian Wright
The album comprises of ten beautiful tracks which take Killian's soundtrack composition to new heights. We know you won't be disappointed. This work defies musical convention with twisting and challenging chord structures, complex orchestration and original soundscape instrumentation. This is a truly exceptional piece of work that lifts the imagination and stirs the soul with a heart wrenching melancholic musical journey
We're not sure where Killian's re-imagining project will take him next. His first album, Castaway was a guilty pleasure of experimentation and discovery for a young 15 year old. Now 16, and with another year's experience behind him, this album is exceptionally polished and mature in both composition, production and soundscape/synthwave techniques. When we heard he'd chosen another Oscar winning film, a note of caution was sounded. When he further announced it was an Iranian film; a culture a million miles away from this Norfolk boys' heritage, we were a little surprised. But as we all know, music transcends any cultural barriers and respects all genres regardless of their geographical location and his album of homage certainly does that.
We hope one day you'll be able to hear the music with the visuals of the film, until then, take a look at the film promo below (all rights remain with the producers and production companies)
